In honor of our fire fighters, police, EMS, and emergency service workers, and in remembrance of all those who gave their lives on September 11th 2001 St. Patrick’s Parish held a special “Blue” Mass and ecumenical prayer service on Sunday, September 11th, 2011. A Blue Mass is a special Mass offered for those in public service to our communities who risk their lives to maintain peace and safety in our towns and on our streets. This year the Holy Mass was offered for the happy repose of the souls of all the victims and heroes of the awful day, and especially for Frs. Mychal Judge and Francis Grogan, who died on 9-11. As you may know, Fr. Mychal Judge was one of the first to die on 9-11, a New York Fire Chaplain, he died with the men and women he so loved, ministering the Last Rites to a fallen fire fighter. Fr. Judge was not the only Catholic priest to die that day however; he was joined by Fr. Francis Grogan of Easton, who was well known and loved here in Wareham. A priest of the Society of the Holy Cross, Fr. Grogan was a passenger and victim of flight 175 and in whose honor a Knights of Columbus Council was recently erected here in Wareham.

Immediately following the Mass we held a prayer service at the flag pole directly in front of the Church.
