Our Church

The centennial anniversary of St. Patrick’s parish is fast approaching in 2011. The Catholic presence in Wareham goes back much earlier. Our roots go back to 1865 when our founders bought a former Baptist Church here on High Street. That former church still survives as our parish center. The present church was built in 1939. It is designed in the colonial style and its simple Georgian architectural lines give it the appearance of the classic New England church. St. Anthony’s Chapel in the Tremont section of West Wareham dates to the early Twentieth Century. It too was a former Protestant church. It is small, quaint and invokes the feel of a small country chapel.

As our centennial approaches, we will be celebrating the parish’s legacy and history. We also are looking forward to conducting a self study so that we can evaluate our strengths and weakness. Then we can take action so that we can be even more faithful to our call to be the light of Christ Jesus here in Wareham.
