Easter 2010
Dear St. Patrick’s Parishioners,
“Then the other disciple also went in, the one who had arrived at the tomb first, and he saw and believed,” - John 20:8
The Gospel of John tells us it was after the beloved disciple entered the tomb he was able to believe what Jesus had preached to his disciples. That message was that Jesus would suffer his passion, death, and be resurrected from the dead. Our belief in eternal life is plausible after we too have experienced the preaching, healing and forgiveness of our savior Jesus Christ. We can come to our belief in the resurrection only after we take the time to enter the tomb.
Hopefully , you and your household are taking the time to enter into the tomb through the practice of the Lenten disciplines of fasting, almsgiving, and prayer. This year we have tried to offer ways for parishioners to use this Lent to enrich their faith. If you haven’t been living up to your Lenten resolve, it is not too late to start now. God appreciates all of our efforts to enter the tomb and grow in faith.
Enclosed with this letter is a leaflet with the schedule of services for Holy Week and Easter. I am looking forward to seeing the entire parish use these celebrations as an opportunity to enter the tomb so that at Easter we can feel a renewed and stronger faith. Plan to clear your schedule so you can come and be with us this Holy Week.
Also enclosed is an envelope so that you can contribute toward the expense of Easter flowers and decorations in memory of, or honor of, a loved one. Please return the envelope in the collection basket or send it to the parish office before Friday, March 26, 2010. We would like to include the names in the Easter bulletin.
Please be assured that we are both keeping you, your loved ones, and all the faithful of St. Patrick’s Parish in our prayers this Easter. Our hope is that all who have died with Christ will also share in the triumph of the Resurrection
Faithfully yours in Christ,
(Rev.) John M. Sullivan, Pastor
(Rev.) Ronnie P. Floyd, Parochial Vicar
